A Clearer View

What an awesome experience this last weekend was for not only our youth but for the adults as well. We went to a place in the world that most will never go, the slums of Ecuador. We did not actually travel to Ecuador rather we traveled to Lineville, Alabama to the S.I.F.A.T. (Servants in Faith and Technology) grounds for a 48 hour simulation of life in the slums of Ecuador. …… Continue Reading

Racism – A Learned Skill

Racism – A Learned Skill

There is no doubt in my mind that racism still exists. However one needs to be careful calling someone else a racist. Ask yourself whether it is racism or ignorance? There is a difference. When someone says those blasted Muslims, or all those black people, those whites, those anything of the sort, then they are racist. Regardless of color, race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other “qualifying” status that …….

Branded

This is for the guys who slip off their ring as they walk into the bar. Karma, what can I say? A women’s scorn will one day come back to bite you when and where you least expect it! So she said as the package was opened with the photos of you sleeping and,

your ring falls out!

Well I feel like such a fool, thinking the whole time you’re so cool

While you were using me, you had a family

And I admit you’ve played me well, and it worked until I felt

You had a wedding band, carved in your cheating hand

Branded,

Don’t pull me into your life; I’m not competing with your wife

Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to Ashes

The fight came from nowhere.  Words were said that should not have been.  Feelings tossed out like the trash.  Raw nerves grinded like coffee until there is no feeling.  Bruised, bleeding, alone, and crying in the corner.  Never again are the words that are there, but not out loud.  Self-healing bones and long sleeve shirts hide the damage.  At some point something snaps and clarity sets in.  There is an end to the madness,

Yes, there is an end.

It is not so easy to see

Which of the limbs have been broken

Or to know when the roots became visible to all

Hope and Change

Hope and Change

One day you are on top of the world.  Your family was happy, healthy, and living the middle class dream.  Then things that you have no control over turn your world upside down.  You had a little in 401k, a few little investments, and had just bought my dream house.  America seemed to die a little that year and now four years later we are in the ICU on life support.

I miss my America

To sleep under a starry sky

It used to be a dream

Now it’s a nightmare with no end

To listen to the sounds of the night

The Tears Left Behind

She drinks whiskey for breakfast, and he’s never noticed                                                          He kisses her cheek, as he runs out the door                                                                              He’s gone for a week, and she’s left there crying                                                                           For the man that she loves, and a love that’s gone wrong

She cries for her lover, her friend, and her husband                                                                    She cries for the memories, that have faded in time                                                                   She cries as she sleeps, with no one beside her                                                                               And that no one will notice, the tears left behind

The Keys to My Heart

The Keys to my Heart

The cheating and lying can only be masked for so long before the nerves are exposed and blood starts to pour. Vengence is brutal at the hands of a scorned woman. It is even worse when there are two.

All my friends said you were special

When you came strolling through the doors

Jeans and t-shirt clinging to you

Leaving me wishing I saw more

Your love has pulled me round in circles

Seems there’s no ending to the pain

Our first time it seemed so special

Until you called out her name

You’ve lost the keys to my heart

You left them lying in her bed

You’ve had me crying from the start

And I’m the fool that played the part

You’ve lost the keys to my heart

It Must Be Me

It Must Be Me

Believe what I believe! You are not tolerant! You should listen to me! People today are very polarized in their beliefs. There seems to be no gray areas only black and white. If you disagree with someone you are a bigot, a racist, intolerant, or just insensitive. Take a step back and analyze your own words. Sometimes the mirror of life can really show you the truth.

Is it me, really?

Why am I wrong

Because I do not agree

My values do not matter

In your eyes

I must give in

Or I am wrong

Bricks

Bricks

Bricks

While visiting Savannah we saw the bricks. SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) is saving them and rebuilding areas built with blood. Buildings that were made with the bricks made by slaves are now being preserved for future generations to see and remember. A lasting reminder that life is not fair and that bad things happen. But even more, these bricks serve as a reminder that we should never let this kind of atrocity happen again.

Thankfully, a time not forgotten

Imagine their hands

Covered in mud

Throwing the mix into molds

A mixture of

Mud

Hay

Blood

Changing

Changing

All things in life can change unexpectedly.  Without notice you could lose your job, home, car, or family.  Some people move from relationship to relationship with little to no problems at all.  Others are not so lucky.  The pain and torment of losing a part of their life cannot be easily calmed.  The hurt runs so deep that the wounds never heal.  They keep hoping for a change that never comes.

Change happens in the blink of an eye

Love, a pain like no other

Taking a chance means making a cut

A small incision, just enough

To bleed out slowly, over time

Dying a slow death, but oh so painful
